Central Whidbey Fire & Rescue Information Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue is located on Beautiful Whidbey Island, which is in Puget Sound just north of Seattle. CLICK HERE FOR MAP OF JURISDICTION We protect the middle of Whidbey Island from Penn Cove to the North end of Freeland, an area covering approx. 50 square miles with a population of 10,000. This area includes the Historic Town of Coupeville which is the Seat of Island County, 4 State Parks, the Keystone Ferry Landing, miles of shoreline, Greenbank, SR525 and SR20, and all surrounding communities. We are a combination career/ volunteer fire department, governed by 3 elected Fire Commissioners who have legislative responsibility as well as oversee a budget of approx. $1,000,000 . Our career staff consists of a Fire Chief, a Training and Safety Captain, 6 Firefighters, and an Administrative Assistant. To supplement volunteer response, the firefighters work a 24 hour on 48 off schedule. Our Volunteer Staff consists of about 40 dedicated people. They can either be Firefighters, EMT's or both, and respond at all hours of the day and night. Our volunteer program is vital to our department. We responded to 1117 calls in 2006. We have 4 stations strategically located throughout the district. Each Station is staffed with a first out Engine, Rescue and Tender. Coupeville's station has a second out engine in place of a Tender due to Coupevilles fire hydrants. For more information about our Stations and Apparatus CLICK HERE. Our Headquarters is located at 1164 Race Rd., in Coupeville. We also have a Training Facility where we conduct live fire training, car fire training, search and rescue, ventilation, and many other training evolutions. We also conduct Occupancy Inspections for the Town of Coupeville. To keep our community informed, we publish a quarterly newsletter that includes among other things, public education, seasonal fire concerns, updates on training and any concerns the department has. |
