Community Addressing Project Program Coordinator Firefighter Jennifer Porter With Summer fast approaching and the weather getting nicer, we here at CWIFR are gearing up for the continuation of our addressing project. The response we've received from both the public and the emergency services has been overwhelmingly positive. We had originally planned on starting at one end of the district and systematically making our way to the other end, but we had so many requests for signs, that you have, hopefully noticed them popping up all around Central Whidbey. For those not familiar with the program, we at CW Fire, are providing reflective address signs to all residents within our district. The signs are blue with white numbers and meet all current and proposed building and fire code regulations in Island County. Both the blue and white are a 3M reflective material that make it easy for us to see in the wee hours of the morning. In an Emergency every second counts, and being able to find you quickly instead of wasting precious time searching for an address, may make all the difference. Because this is such an important issue to us, we are providing the signs, labor and installation materials; all we ask from you is your permission to allow us to install the signs. Signs may also be picked up from the fire station if you wish to install the signs yourself. The mounting hardware and copies of Island County address placement protocols are also available. It also helps if signs are requested. If you know you would like a sign please call us at 678-3602. This will help to get signs to those people we know that would like one. Requested signs are installed first, and with such a large number being requested we have been busy with those orders. We also go door to door and have been able to address entire neighborhoods in this fashion. Along with address signs, we also provide packets of information regarding fire safety, fire prevention and other household emergencies. Smoke detectors, replacement batteries and their installation are services that we are happy to provide. To request a sign or for any questions or comments, please call us at 360-678-3602, come by headquarters at 1164 Race Rd., Coupeville, or e-mail us from the link provided below. |
